Switzerland learns Romansh
12 October 2026
From 12 to 16 October 2026, 77 participants from across Switzerland will spend a week in Sta. Maria (Val Müstair, Canton of Graubünden) to learn Vallader in nine classes of varying levels.
In addition to language lessons, this intensive course offers the opportunity to discover Romansh culture and enjoy the company of fellow participants during the afternoon and evening social programme.
Three of the nine groups are advanced classes studying at the ‘Conversaziun e litteratura’ level – one of which is led by the author Rut Plouda from Ftan. In the remaining six classes, participants are not using the ‘In lingia directa’ teaching material as usual this year; instead, they are using the new ‘Drivaportas’ resource, which they are also evaluating. The University of Teacher Education Graubünden is currently developing this teaching material and testing it in practice.
By prior arrangement, interested media representatives may attend the language lessons or take part in the cultural programme (visits to local attractions, talks, readings, etc.).
