The world of Grimsel
27 July 2020
The world of Grimsel (die Grimselwelt) is not only a world of hydropower, waterfalls and mountain and reservoir lakes. It is the water castle of Europe.
The mountains and glaciers with their granite rocks, gorges, the trift cable car, alpine meadows, many bridges, hiking trails, deep valleys and the 120-meter high Reichbach waterfall are also part of it. In this waterfall, Sherlock Holmes challenged his arch-enemy Professor Moriaty to a fight.
With its 106% gradient, the Gelmerbahn is also the steepest open cable car in Europe. The Aare Gorge is the gateway to this world. In the course of thousands of years, the river Aare has made its way through the limestone.
The gorge is 1400 meters long and 200 meters deep. (Source and further information: www.grimselwelt.ch).
