Top-level Research in Davos

Davos (canton of Graubünden) is a winter sports Eldorado with high peaks, but has also top-level research. Climate change has a strong influence on weather extremes in the Alpine region.

Global warming is twice the world average. The consequences are floods, rock avalanches, landslides and long periods of drought in the summer.

The Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (Die Eidgenossische Forschungsanstalt für Wald, Schnee und Landschaft WSL), the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (das Institut für Schnee- und Lawinenforschung, SLF) and the ETH Zurich are participating in a new research centre in Davos.

The Centre will research (rock) movements in the Alps, permafrost, the effects of climate change, mountain ecology and risk communication, as well as adequate warning systems and the ability to react quickly to events.
