Das Grosse Moos
10 September 2020
Das Grosse Moos is a peat bog on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel in the Three-Lakes Region (Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Morat and Lake Biel). The region has been flooded for centuries.
The first initiatives to control the lakes and rivers in this region took place between 1868 and 1878. The water level of Lake Neuchâtel fell by about 3 metres.
This led to what is nowadays the Grosse Moos nature reserve and the nearby Fanel and Cudrefin nature reserves, as well as the Birdlife nature centre La Sauge (founded in 2001).
