The Vecchio Monastero Poschiavo
The first construction of the monastery dates from 1629. A significant extension and renovation took place in 1654. The building from this period is well preserved. For the first time in almost four hundred years of history, a hotel entrepreneur leases the monastery.
Originally it was a women’s monastery of the Order of Urseliner, in 1684 the monastery passed under the name Santa Maria to the Order of Augustiner. In 1972 a new monastery replaced the complex and the (female) monastic community leaves the old monastery, which for this reason is now called Vecchio Monastero. Today the monastery is a centre for reflection, ecumenism, spirituality and culture. (More information: www.vecchio-monastero.ch).
