The Swiss Society of Women Artists in the Visual Arts

The Swiss Society of Women Artists in the Visual Arts, SGBK (die Schweizerische Gesellschaft Bildender Künstlerinnen). The Society was founded in 1902 and is divided into three sections: Basel (Basel-City/Basel-Country), Berne/Romandie and Zurich, and represents the established and alternative cultural scene. The SGBK brings women artists and their artistic work to the attention of the public.

The SGBK is a member of  Suisseculture, the umbrella organisation of professional cultural workers in Switzerland. The Society also fights for the acceptance of diversity and equal opportunities in Switzerland.

The SGBK is a nationwide network for women artists and, simultaneously, a springboard for admission to other organisations.

As winner of the 2012 Equal Opportunities Award of the cantons of Basel-City and Basel-Country, the SGBK also contributes to recognising women artists among the broad public.
