The collection consists of paintings and sculpture from the late Middle Ages till the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with a focus on Swiss artists from this period. Ferdinand Hodler, Cuno Amiet, Félix Vallotton, Giovanni Giacometti and representatives of Art Nouveau are among the artists presented. Works by Paul Cézanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, Fernand Léger und Henri Matisse put the collection into international perspective. Robert Müller, Bernhard Luginbühl, Oscar Wiggli, Jean Tinguely and others exhibited their sculptures.
