Deep inside the Gotthard lies one of the largest fortresses in Switzerland. In addition to the historic fortress, visitors can visit the Gotthard World of Experience (Erlebniswelt Gotthard ) and the largest crystals ever found, the Chamber of Wonders (Wunderkammer), Reduit Picture Machine (Reduit Bildmachine, the Swiss defence system in World War II) and multimedia exhibitions on energy and the significance of Ticino in the Second World War. The underground transport railway (Metro del Sasso) connects the historic fortress “Sasso da Pigna” and the Gotthard World of Experience.
