The Museum (Forum Schweizer Geschichte) shows the history of the Swiss Confederation (Eidgenossenschaft) in the Middle Ages.
The permanent exhibition focuses on the foundation and early development of the Old Swiss Confederacy during the Middle Ages. The thematic approach situates this development within a European context.
The roles of the Church, trade and business, commercial routes, cities versus aristocracy, feudal society versus city citizens, and other issues.
The museum is one of three national museums; the other two are in Prangins and Zurich.
