The Swiss Straw Museum (Schweizer Stromuseum) is dedicated to the straw and hat-weaving industry in Switzerland. It focuses in particular on the Freiamt region in Aargau, the most important centre of this industry. Straw, this humble material, formed the basis of a thriving economic sector for two centuries. What began as cottage industry gradually developed into an export-oriented hat-weaving industry.

The permanent exhibition provides an overview of the fascinating history of the straw and hat-weaving industry, from rural craftsmanship to early industrial mass production for the international fashion market.
