The location is dedicated to Heidi, the Swiss girl created by the author Johanna Spyri (1827-1901). The Heidi museum and house tell the story of Heidi and her village Heididorf.

The Castle, standing on a promontory above Lake Lucerne, knows a long history. Its current outlook dates from the years 1868-1870, with the Loire castle Chambord as inspiration. The chapel was built in 1886, almost a copy of the chapel of another Loire castle, the Amboise castle.
