Russian Requiem

The Composer Kirill Richter says about his Russian Requiem:

“The Requiem reflects the experiences of my family. The real story of the gulags, the inhumane labour camps that deprived millions of people of their freedom under Stalin’s rule, has been treated too little. Much has not yet been said, much remains to be said about this historical trauma. The pain lives on in us, seems to be genetically transmitted, as it were, as a collective memory of an entire people. The Requiem asks for the great “why”. It is a musical memorial that preserves a lasting memory of those who have never returned”.
