Historical Museum Basel

The museum (Historisches Museum) houses a diverse collection of historical and cultural artefacts on the Upper Rhine. It runs four separate sites: whereas the Barfüsser Church and the Haus zum Kirschgarten both boast a wide range of exhibits, the Carriage Museum and the Museum of Music each have a much narrower focus. All four sites are historical buildings. The main focus of the museum’s collection is on Basel itself and the surrounding region. It houses a wide range of artefacts both sacred and secular and several self-contained collections such as the Basel Cathedral Treasury dating back to the 11th century and the 16th-century Amerbach Cabinet.
