A hiker often comes across one surprise after another in the canton of Neuchâtel. Above the village of Cornaux, in the forest and on the edge of the vineyards, stands the castle of Jeanjaquet. The castle is privately owned and not open to the public. The walk between the vineyards and forest is already worthwhile. In Celtic times this location was already inhabited. Roman finds in the church of St. Martin also show that there was a temple there during Roman rule. The nearby museum Laténium in Hauterive deals with this (pre) history. The church of St. Martin will be discussed below.
