Benedictine monastery of Sankt Georgen

The town of Stein am Rhein is home to the former Benedictine monastery of Sankt Georgen. The medieval monastery was dissolved in 1526 during the Reformation. The monastery museum gives access to the monastery and to the abbeys and monastery gardens. The murals are among the earliest and most important Renaissance paintings north of the Alps. They date from the beginning of the 16th century. (Source and further information: www.klostersanktgeorgen.ch).
