The museum (Landesmuseum Zürich) shows the history of Switzerland from its early beginnings until the present day.

The archaeology exhibition (Archäologie-Ausstellung) focuses on the main stages of human history from prehistoric times to the conversion to Christianity in the early Middle Ages.

“Swiss history” (Geschichte Schweiz) provides a comprehensive insight into the political history of the Confederation and ends with current topics, The “Collections Gallery” (Galerie Sammlungen) presents a representative insight into the artifacts of the museum and the largest cultural history collection in the country.

The National Museum regularly organises temporary exhibitions. The two other national museums are in Schwyz and Prangins.
